Cocktail time at my parents place was a pretty simple affair - a little Canadian whiskey and some Canada Dry (often called a Rye and Ginger). I developed a taste for it, too, but always wanted more ginger. This updated version amps up the zing but still makes me think of Dad.
1.5 oz Maker's Mark
1.5 oz Spiritopia Ginger Liqueur
2 oz soda (or ginger ale if you like it a little sweeter)
Pour all ingredients into a tall glass of ice. Enjoy!
Other notes: Apparently, using Maker's and Ale-8-One (a type of citrus/ginger soda) makes a "Kentucky Gentleman." Who knew. An older brandy or bourbon version with a long citrus peel garnish is called a "Horse's Neck."
